Let’s face it, times a are a little tough right now.Â Everyone seems to be cutting a lot of the non-essentials from their budgets.Â Obviously, eating out at restaurants would be high on the list.Â But if you do choose to cook more at home for whatever reason, you don’t have to sacrifice the great taste you find at your favourite restaurants.Â Here’s a recipe you can make at home for Applebee’s famous Oriental Chicken Salad that tastes exactly like the real thing.
As with most restaurant salads, the real flavor comes from the dressing.Â Here’s what you’ll need for this one:
You can use either an electric mixer or a whisk to mix all the dressing ingredients together, then toss it in the fridge to chill while you’re making the rest of the salad.Â Here’s what you’ll need:
First, you have to get that chicken ready.Â Beat the egg and milkÂ in a bowl and combine the flour,Â cornflake crumbs, salt and pepperÂ together.Â Cut the chicken breast into 4 or 5 strips and dip first into the egg mixture, then the flour mixture.
Be sure to preheat the oil in a deep fryer or frying pan to a temperature of around 350 degrees.Â Once it’s all ready, fry each chicken strip for around 5 minutes or until the outside is golden brown.Â You can cut into one to make sure it’s cooked if you aren’t sure.
You can get the salad ready by tossing the cabbages and carrots together.Â Then sprinkle the onions on top of that, then the almonds and chow mein noodles.Â Cut the chicken into bite sized chunks and add to the salad.Â You can serve the dressing on the side or mix it all together if that’s your preference.
Some of you will want to present it exactly like at the restaurant, and some will just want to do their own thing.Â Either way, it will taste like an Applebee’s Oriental Chicken Salad and that’s what matters most.
